Bargaining Update  from July 28, 2018

 

Included below are summaries of the proposals exchanged between the Royal School District and REA (Royal Education Association – Teachers’ Union) on July 28, 2018

 

Summary of the REA (Royal Education Association – Teacher Union) Proposal:

23% increase on the base salary schedule (reduced from 33% on June 27, 2018)

  • Average salary $72,911 (exceeds the 2018-19 cap of $71,711 average salary)
  • Maximum salary of $94,301 exceeds statutory maximum of $90,000 + IPD, or $91,710
  • Includes 5 days, additional 2.8%
  • Includes 22 steps and the seniority incentive (2 days or 1.1% at 20 years and 3 days or 1.7% at 25 years)
  • Total base salary cost:  $7.78 million
  • Total cost 5 days:  $217,840
  • Total cost seniority incentive (est.):  $29,760
  • Total Compensation:  $8,027,600

Summary of the Royal School District Proposal:

  • A salary schedule with an average base salary of $66,504 (increase of $1,288 average per person from June 27, 2018)
  • No additional duties, except State-funded professional learning days (one additional day each year in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21, for a total of three additional days), that will be paid at per diem
  • Five TRI days, additional 2.8%
  • Average total compensation:  $68,366 (a 15.3% increase in total compensation over 2017-18, 2.3% increase over June 27, 2018 offer)
  • Total base salary cost:  $7,095,942
  • Total Compensation:  $7,294,628
  • Three-year deal:  Years 2 and 3 at the greater of 3% or the implicit price deflator (cost of living adjustment)
