Welcome to the 2017-18 School year

rhs logo 250x250I am excited for the new school year.  I look forward to seeing all of our great students again.  I hope that each of you had a great summer and are ready for the new school year.   The teachers have been working hard to make sure they are ready for you.

We were very fortunate and were able to make some tremendous hires that will be great additions to our amazing staff.  Royal graduate Stefhany Guadarrama recently graduated from Gonzaga with a Master’s in Teaching and will join our Math Department. It’s always great when our former students return and become one of our teachers.  Chelsea Knight will join the ELA Department.  Chelsea a Washington native comes to from California High School in San Ramon, California. Her experience will be very valuable. Jeremy Hurdus will teach our EL classes and Spanish.  Jeremy will soon complete his Ph.D in Language Acquisition in Multilingual Settings.  Our new Strength and Conditioning Teacher, Matt Pirie graduated from WSU with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Strength and Conditioning, he has recently earned Master’s in Education from Whittier College.  He brings experience working with multiple athletic programs and athletes at both WSU and Whittier. Finally, I am excited to welcome back Viri Barajas as our new secretary that will work with the ever amazing Janet Jack.

This year we are starting our Knight’s Code of Conduct.  Many of our students were involved in developing the Code.  Mr. Smith and the Leadership Class also created videos for you about the Knights Code. We will spend some time in the first few days learning the Code.

I am excited for all that will happen this year. I can’t wait to watch our athletes compete and to listen to the great sounds of the band and choir.  The Leadership Class and ASB are planning some great activities.  Royal High School has a wide variety of activities for you to participate in.  I hope each of you will add to your high school experience and memories by participating on one of our athletic teams, band, choir, and/or clubs.
