Message from the Superintendent: Spring 2012

SPRING 2012

Now that we are back from Spring Break, we only have eight weeks left of school.  I say only because we have so much to do in the next eight weeks!

Annually, we are required to assess our students, either with the state’s MSP (Measurements of Student Progress), HSPE (High School Proficiency Exam) and/or EOC (End of Course) assessment.  When teaching content to our students, teachers have incorporated strategies that will help students pass these assessments.

On another note, a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) has been formed and is well on its way.  I am excited to have this organization in our district to help in schools!

PRIMAVERA 2012

Ahora que estamos de vuelta de las vacaciones de primavera, sólo tenemos ocho semanas que quedan de la escuela. Yo digo sólo porque tenemos mucho que hacer en las próximas ocho semanas!

Anualmente, nosotros somos requeridos de evaluar a nuestros estudiantes, ya sea con el examen del estado MSP (Medidas de Progreso del Estudiante), HSPE (Examen de Dominio de la Preparatoria) y la evaluación / EOC (Fin de Curso). Cuando se les enseña los contenidos a nuestros estudiantes, los profesores han incorporado estrategias que ayuden a los estudiantes pasar estas evaluaciones.

CALENDAR CHANGES

LETTER from the SUPERINTENDENT

January 31, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Since we have had such mild winter weather, it seems odd to be writing a letter concerning school make-up days.  However, as you recall, we had two no-school days due to inclement weather January 19 and 20.  January 20 was a scheduled 2-hour late start.

We have two snow make-up days, February 16 and May 25, built into our school calendar; we will be coming to school on both of those days.  February 16 will be a 2-hour late start since January 20 was scheduled to be a late start.

In years past, we have had conferences in April.  During this time we had a 2-hour late start so teachers may prepare and, the next day, an early release for conferences.

Having conferences in April did not give students enough time to improve, if needed, before the end of the semester.  We have decided to move this conference period to February 28 – 2-hour late start for teacher preparation and February 29 – early release for conferences.

 Important Calendar Dates:

• February 16, 2012 - 2-hour Late Start - Snow Make-up Day
• February 28, 2012 - 2-hour Late Start - Teacher Preparation for Conferences
• February 29, 2012 - Early Release – Student Conferences
• April 25, 2012 – Regular School Day (NO 2-hour LATE START)
• April 26, 2012 – Regular School Day (NO EARLY RELEASE)
• May 25, 2012 - Snow Make-up Day

Thank you for your support for these calendar changes.  I hope providing advance notice will give you time to make any needed scheduling arrangements. 

Our next Royal School District Board of Directors Meeting is February 27, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library.  At this meeting the Board will be discussing the possibility of purchasing portable buildings to help with our growing student population.  You are welcome to attend.

Estimado Padres/Guardianes:

Puesto que hemos tenido un tiempo de invierno moderado, parece extraño estar escribiendo una carta referente a la recuperacion de los días escolares. Sin embargo, como ustedes recordarán, tuvimos dos días de escuela cerrada por las inclemencias del tiempo el 19 y 20 de Enero. el 20 de Enero fue programada  para ser 2 horas de inicio tardío.

Tenemos dos dias programados en nuestro calendario para reponer los dias debido a las nevadas que serán en Febrero 16 y Mayo 25. El 16 de Febrero será un retraso de 2 horas desde que el 20 de Enero fue programado para ser un inicio tardío.

En los últimos años, hemos tenido conferencias en Abril. Durante este tiempo hemos tenido un inicio tardío de 2 horas para que los maestros puedan preparar y, al día siguiente, una liberación temprana para las conferencias.

Teniendo conferencias en Abril no se les dan suficiente tiempo a los estudiantes para mejorar, si es necesario, antes de que se termine el semestre. Hemos decidido pasar este período de conferencias al 28 de Febrero – que también será 2 horas inicio tardío de preparación para maestros y en Febrero 29-Salida temprana para conferencias.

Fechas Importantes:

• Febrero 16, 2012 - 2 Horas Inicio Tardío – reponer un Dia de Nieve
• Febrero 28, 2012 - 2 Horas Inicio Tardío- Preparación para las Conferencias
• Febrero 29, 2012 – Salida Temprana – Conferencias de Estudiantes
• Abril 25, 2012 – Dia Regular de Clases (NO Hay 2 horas DE INICIO TARDIO)
• Abril 26, 2012 – Dia Regular de Clases (NO HAY SALIDA TEMPRANO)
• Mayo 25, 2012 – Reponer un Dia de Nieve

Gracias por su apoyo en los cambios del calendario.  Espero que la notificación por adelantado le dará tiempo para hacer los arreglos necesarios.

Nuestra próxima Junta de Distrito de la Junta Directiva será el Febrero 27, 2012 a las 7:00 pm en la Biblioteca de la Escuela Secundaria. En esta reunión de la Junta discutirán la posibilidad de adquirir edificios portátiles para ayudar a nuestra creciente población estudiantil. Le invitamos a asistir.
